Yesterday while coming back on the dinkie from Chgo. I remembered a question 
that I used to ask the "old heads". Let's see if anyone on the list can answer 
this one. 
Steve please refrain from answering until others have a chance as I suspect 
you have first hand knowledge of the answer. 

Here's the question: In the pre-radio days how would a crew know what trk. to 
s/o or p/u from @ Eola,Mendota and other yards while enroute? The answer is 
not a message with their train orders. 
And not to get off and ask the Ydmstr. A clue is this method of passing on 
info. was still in place at one location in Chgo well into the 1970's but was 
not for a frt train but rather passenger service at that location.
