Yes- if Galesburg falls thru (no response yet) I personally would
like it to stay in "Granger Country" and if that fails, someplace
that will maintain it. Following is from owner: "Mt. Lyell" is a
full size Pullman (Solarium Lounge) car. It is about 80' long. It
was built to Pullman plan 3521, Lot 4816, in October 1924. It was
placed in the general service pool. In 1948 it was sold to the CB&Q
and leased back to Pullman. This was when the Justice Department
broke up the control of Pullman. In almost all cases the cars were
sold to the railroads where the car was being used. The number #676
was added at that time, and later changed to #644. In March 1954 it
was withdrawn from the lease arrangement and eventually became work
car 251166. It now has the number 968029n (BN MoW #). It is a 10
section sleeper. The car still has most of its sleeping sections.
The solarium seating area was converted to a kitchen for maintenance
service, but this can be removed. The car has 6 wheel friction
bearing trucks. The body is in pretty good condition with very
little rust. Glass windows need to be replaced. The car is sitting
in the railroad yard at the McCloud Railroad in Northern California
with BN & UP (SP) connections. The buyer will have to remove the
car from there. This car would make a beautiful restoration project.
