Can anyone help with a query about the four Valuation cars that became
passenger-waycars?
Coach cars 5221, 5164, 5243 and 5270 were renumbered in 1916 to V-1, V-29, V-31
and V-32 (with "V" meaning "Valuation) along with 8 others (renumbered V-2 to
V-8 and V-30) for use by the Interstate Commerce Commission that was valuing
each railroad. In 1920, these four cars were given pax-waycar numbers of
3971-3974 respectively, as CW-7's.
The question is when were these converted to pax-waycars - before or after the
V numbers were applied? The latest conversions of other coaches to pax-waycars
that I have been able to establish were in 1916 (which neatly ties in with the
V renumbering). I'm guessing that the partial waycar configuration (with the
facilities of a waycar) would be more useful as a mobile office that the
standard seating layout of a coach.
Any ideas or suggestions?
