In 1952, when the City got stuck on Donner, Number 17 was right behind -
routed over Donner due to 16' of snow in the canyon. While they offered to
take the SP passengers, SP declined (the CZ was routed over Donner on the
other track). The CZ made it in first. Has anyone seen photos aside from
the books For 10 days in '52, (when the canyon was deep in snow and Donnor
was stuck with the City), the CZ was routed SLC-Barstow-Stockton-Oakland -
UP-ATSF-WP - and return. They ran 8 hours late, but still turned it
around each day. Photos (aside from books)?
At some point, due to weather and other delays, two CZ's headed the same (
direction were combined into a 26 car train out of SLC. Photos?
The CZ was pulled a few times by Cab Forwards - I know Guy Dunscomb had a
photo - anyone seen one outside of the books?
Has anyone seen photos of the accident at Sulphur, NV when a flash flood
spread across the desert? Again, Dunscomb had an aerial view.
WP diners and crew worked 3 days out (to Chi), then 3 days back and then
off. Q crews did the opposite. D&RGW crews went from Denver to Oakland to
Chicago to Denver. Which meant that there was a real possibility of having
your breakfast interrupted in Denver. So that had to be a second D&RGW
diner crew. Then they'd lay off for ten days. Does that make three
crews? I have to mull this one around, as I haven't really thought through
the implications.
