Paul,
Ottawa and LaSalle/Peru offer some interesting themes. Ottawa was not
so much an interchange as a couple of large industrial complexes
switched on joint CB&Q/RI trackage at Ottawa Silica and Libbey Owens
Ford (LOF) glass company. Both railroads were known to pull several
thousand cars a year out of both places. LaSalle/Peru is a slightly
lesser Q branch line, but with some good traffic both with local
industries and the Zearing/Streator line. L/P could also involve the
IC, NYC, Milw, and LS&BC.
If any of this interests you, especially Ottawa, let me know. I
currently have a layout based on the Q branch from Montgomery to
Streator in operation and focus heavily on Ottawa.
