Sept. 1952: "The Train that Sparked an Era" is a tribute to the
original Pioneer Zephyr, the train that made the name Zephyr
famous. This is its biography. The 2nd article is "Denver at
Dawn, Chicago at Dusk" which is a wonderful report on the
Pioneer Zephyr's historical May, 1934 historical nonstop run from
the Rockies to the Great Lakes. 12 b&w photos: $5.00 postpaid
June 1959: "How the "'Greyhounds'" of the Burlington Beat the
Rising Sun" is a full reproduction of a promotional booklet
issued by the CB&Q as a tribute to train 59 The Fast Mail. The
author, William B. Hunter, rode the cab of locomotive 590 a
Baldwin 2-4-2 built in 1895 and rebuilt into an Atlantic in 1905.
The run takes place in 1899 when there was much competition
among railroads to secure mail contracts. The entire pamphlet
is published including the dramatic artwork. The Burlington was
very fast at the end of the 19th Century. $5.00 postpaid
