I can do a couple decades as have Official Equipment Registers back
to 1890's. Of course make-up of a "typical" frt train would vary
also by area of the RR, time frt or way frt, time of yr, E or W, N
or S bound, etc. Will work up for mid-60's, mid-50's & mid-40's
this w/e and post to the Yahoo Q list. Future Zephyrs could have
some typical consists in future issues based on actual conductors'
car lists but then again there is a big caveat to 'typical'.Actually
all an OER does is tell you what RR owned on such & such a date.
Some of the cars were seldom on line due to off-line dedicated
service; lots of foreign road cars were on line (I gave samples of
the road names & frequency there of for Ottumwa in the 40's/50's to
this list a yr ago). In reality, there is a proto for just about
anything: into the 60's Q had mixed frts; at one time handled a
special giraffe car for Brookfield Zoo; new foreign road locos
coming FROM LaGrange and old F units going TO; PRR "horse cars"
(special baggage cars) to Aurora Downs racetrack; solid trains of
grain, coal, piggybacks, etc not to mention carnivals and Ringling
Brothers (under canvas til late 50's whcuh meant 4 sections - saw
one as a kid in LaCrosse, they used the branch to the coal plant @ U
of W LaCrosse to get to some open fields) etc etc.
So have fun. obviously if modeling Chi-Twin Cities have more GN/NP
equipment mixed in (my area!).
