Gentlemen: The CB&Q business car Round Up was exclusively assigned to the
Traffic Department during the 1960s for entertaining major business clients.
The
car gained some degree of notoriety within the normally straitlaced Burlington
operating department hierachy for its alcohol drenched parties that lasted
well into the night at various division points. Supervisors were instructed to
make sure that all the celebrants were courteously removed from the car the
next morning prior to its being switched into a Zephyr consist for movement to
another on line community. An invitation to a party aboard the Round Up was
considered a major social event across the far flung CB&Q system during those
years. Dress was semi-formal for the era while cocktails flowed and heavy hors
d'oeuvres were served by the CB&Q's finest hand selected from the dining car
staff system wide. Many major freight contracts were renewed and new business
signed aboard the car during the festive evening parties held from Chicago to
Denver and all points in between. The Round Up was a very special business car,
indeed. Best Regards,
Louis Zadnichek II
