NORTHERN ILLINOIS MODEL RAILROAD CLUB SCHEDULES FALL OPEN HOUSE

FREEPORT, IL -- The Stephenson Society of Model Trainmen announce
their annual autumn model railroad show for Saturday & Sunday October
30 & 31 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. The show will be held at the club's
home located at 600 Fever River Place, a former Illinois Central
Railroad boarding house adjacent to Wallace railroad yard in
Freeport. The feature display will be the fully-operational HO-scale
Fever River Railroad, one of the largest club-based model railroads
in the upper Midwest. Entry donation is $2.00 for adults or $1.00
for seniors and children under thirteen. Maximum family donation is
$3.00.

The Fever River Railroad is a fictional railroad set in 1968 running
from Duluth to St. Louis across scenic western Wisconsin and
Illinois. The HO scale layout represents a section of the railroad
between Stanley, WI and Appleton, IL. Along the way, the Fever River
Railroad crosses and interchanges with several Midwestern "granger"
railroads including the Soo Line, Green Bay & Western, Chicago
Northwestern, Milwaukee Road, Illinois Central, Chicago Great
Western, Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Rock Island and Santa Fe. A
wide variety of freight is seen on the Fever River but especially
iron ore from the Minnesota iron ranges, Illinois coal for two on-
line power plants and grain bound for ports at either end of the
line. There are typically 8 trains running at any given time on the
layout. Motive power on the Fever River is eclectic featuring 1st,
2nd and 3rd generation diesel motive power from Alco, EMD, Baldwin
and Fairbanks Morse. A few steam engines can also still be found
roaming the rails.

To find the Fever River Railroad, follow the orange signs at the
intersection Galena Street and Island Avenue, 1 block west of the
intersection of U.S. Business 20 and Illinois Route 26 on the north
side of Freeport. Control-click on this link or copy the entire
