You must be talking about the Zephyr Rocket as it made it into the
1960's. The Mark Twain Zephyr was retired in the late 50's. Mike Spoor's
CB&Q in Color Volume 3 has a number of pictures of the Zephyr Rocket in
the early sixties. If an E unit was not available, they would use
whatever boiler-equipped GP7 was available. The train was heavy on head
end cars. The Rock Island and Burlington provided a coach. The Q coach
seems to be in most pictures a pre-war Budd coach. Sleeper service was
offered until October 1963. During the time mentioned, this was often
handled by Rock Island ex-Golden State/Golden Rocket Pullman Standard
sleepers. The numbers/names of the Walthers HO RI 6-6-4 sleepers match
those I've seen in a couple of pictures. The Q ran a heavyweight diner
from St Louis to West Quincy northbound and it returned on the
southbound train later that night.
