Just to update you guys on a couple of things:
1) We started to do a quick paint job on DRI&NW 121 and found that we
could needle chip all the paint off and get it down to bare metal very
easily... so we talked about it and since the quick paint job is going
to last quite a while... should we paint her back to 9255?? As of last
night, the cab is basically ready for paint and we started needle
chipping the hood (we hope to have the hood done by the weekend). While
this isn't a full restoration (we aren't back dating everything, but we
are moving the horn and installing the correct horn) it will get painted
in CB&Q! Because of this we are running a little over budget on
paint... any help would be appreciated. Also, anyone have the decals
for the cab sides of locomotives??
2) It's been a while since there's been an update on the 504. Over the
summer there hasn't been much work done as we've been busy elsewhere,
but this fall we plan on getting back to it and finishing the side sills
and fabricating the pilots and then moving on to finish painting the
engine room. We have also found that some substantial steel work will
be required under the front hood.
3) The Silver Ridge: I noticed that the coach dept. has started to
re-letter the Silver Ridge and has gotten the windows installed. I'll
try and get some pictures of this in the next couple of weeks. There is
some thought to putting this into the Nebraska Zephyr consist for show
this fall if it's ready... we'll see what happens here.
4) Nebraska Zephyr: She's still running! We started to do dinner trains
again this summer after some major work under the dining car. July 3rd
and 4th were sell outs. Next dinner trains are Labor Day weekend, also
sold out. We are already working on planning next summer... check
www.nebraskazephyr.org over the winter for more info on next years
dinners.
5) Waycar 14073: Our NE-1 waycar got some attention this summer, this
car has been at IRM for just over 30 years now and is need of some major
attention. This summer a few of us went back to "caboose row" and
cleaned her out and put new roofing on it to help keep it from melting
anymore than it already has. A few of us are starting to look at
restoring this as a side project. Anyone who has info on these waycars
we would appreciate getting it. At some point this fall I'm going to
work on getting some current pictures of the car. There will be some
substantial woodwork that needs to be done with this... Please send
checks, we need money to do the restoration as well as to pay for indoor
track space (40ft. X $175/ft. currently).
Have a nice day!
