This is an example of each to his own. Quite frankly I thought the
Streator event was one of best spring meets I've attended. One reason is
that other friends who model the other roads that served Streator
attended making the whole event more enjoyable. I personally think the
associated train show is enhanced by having several roads represented.
It entices more vendors and allows them to make more sales (which makes
them want to come back to next one). I doubt that chances of someone
having what you would have been increased by having it as a Q only meet.
Besides being a modeler, I also have a historical interest. The Q didn't
live in a vacuum. They reacted and acted based on what they neighboring
roads were doing, and quite frankly what some the competitors were doing
was interesting (even to most Q fans and modelers).
I've already forwarded the 2005 meeting announcement to two CGW friends
of mine. So instead of having one friend and myself attend, we will have
a whole carload paying the convention fees and making it more attractive
for more vendors to attend.
I hope to see a continuation of this trend.
