With the recent release of the Burlington Bulletin I thought this
would be of interest to everyone on the list:
Add another existing car from the Exposition Flyer to your list at
the back of the Bulletin!!! I just found out last Sunday from a good
friend of mine who is both a railfan and engineer for the CSX that
the "Silver Fountain" is alive and (hopefully) well here in
Cincinnati (see P. 253 of the BB 42). When he told me he thought it
was originally on the Exposition Flyer I couldn't believe it (since
the Bulletin just came out on the Exposition Flyer). Apparently it
has been stored on the property of a company named Avril here in
Cincinnati since the 1960's. It was behind a fence on their
property, but if you knew where to look, you could see it. Well,
about a week ago the owner or someone (unknown who it is) decided to
move it, apparently to keep it safe from vandals. The car is now at
the Ortner freight car company in Mt. Oreb, Ohio, just outside of
Cincinnati. I have not had a chance to call them or go out there,
but my friend called another railfan here in Cincinnati when I saw
him Sunday to confirm everything. He knows I am a Burlington fan and
wanted to let me know so I could spread the word. His words were: "I
think everyone thinks it was scrapped, so I think someone would like
to know its still around."
BTW, that makes the second Q car I've found this year! The other one
was on a siding in Baltimore. Will wonders never cease? Now if I
could just find that elusive E5 sitting somewhere?
