Specifically Jan. "46 to Sept "49. The variety of RR's really picks up
post-war.

There were 70 cars sealed from 36 foreign roads: PRR-8; NYC-7; three ea
from IC, Southern, L&N, Rock & UP; 2 each from CN, CofG, Milw, SP, NP & B&O
and one ea. from KCS, N&W, C&O, T&P, GM&O, CStPM&O, C&NW, AT&SF, MoPac, ACL,
DL&W, NKP, LV, GN, GTW, IHB, MKT, SOO, SAL (beans from Albia), T&NO, Oregon
Short Line, Birmingham & Southern (#536, 1 of 25 steel 40' boxcars they
owned) and Northampton & Bath (#779, a 40' wood box).

Interestingly, as in past yrs, several of the foreign road box cars had
bagged lime for the Q: a Milw, MP & CofG. One NYC was a 40' steel box with
chlorine, a Southern 37' wood box car with heater problems (produce) & a PRR
box taking corn from Batavia, IA to Chicago.

  The Q had 16 revenue cars & 2 MoW (206221 & 209844 with co. matl's). One
Q was 50' steel box 48187 with company lime, 40' wood box 15685 with signal
dept matls & 36' stock car #56259 that needed to have a bull watered.
(obviously traveling alone as special breeding bull or a particular ornery
Jersey - contrary to common belief the meanest bulls are not the beef breeds
such as Angus, but the dairy - they also can be huge!)

Private owners & railroad refrig subsidiaries included PFE-9; ART-4; FGE
& StLRX (Bud beer)-2 ea; and 1 ea for WFE, URTX, Santa Fe Exp, LNPX #2979
(Lincoln Packing of Lincoln, NE - leased from National Car) & CRSX #8964. I
cannot find the latter in a "47 or "49 OER so either a error by agt & was
supposed to be Cudahy (based on previous yrs & fits their reefer #'s) or ???
Interesting too, no Morrell cars needed sealing - apparently they had
tightened up things @ the plant.

No more seals for steam loco lubricators (sign of the times) and
frequently, as before, seals usually added because they were missing OR a
car was opened to confirm it was empty. One unique seal was for Q box
#23515 which had one automobile unloaded. Next, the early 50's.
