You're up against a *couple* of problems:
Your first demon is light -as-interpreted-by-photo-emulsion-as-tranlated-by-
the-four-colo(u)r [gratuious "U"] furnish for the convenience of British &
Canadian members] -printing-process . . . the "black" roofs of wooden-roofed
waycars are tarred canvas. We've previously discussed the lessa-than-
reliable tonal qualities of finishes which are end-user-mixed, but"tar" is
organic (technical termn for "it's up for grabs") - sometimes, we're talking
coaltar - sometimes were talking about a mineral oil (i. e. La Brea Tar
Pits) - sometimes it's a mineral derivative (creosote) - sometimes it's
artificially compounded "organics" (as in Du "Better Living Through
Chemistry" Pont.
The answer is - suit yourself. "Tarred Canvas", depending upon source and
age, may range from glossy black to semigloss medium brown to pale gray.
As in so many cases involving"color" . . . there ain't no answer - what suits
*you*?
