With a discussion about the Concordia branch thought it might
be time for an update. BTW, there is good unit train business
out of Concordia but of course it comes from the Newton end.

As suspected Southeast Nebraska Coop. got the trackage at the
South side of Beatrice. This allows them to build either a
54 or 110 car unit in one piece. Would have had to install
just one switch. Only problem is that between MP 30.6 and
MP 32.2 it's mostly .7% grade descending towards the South.
Complicated instructions on hand brakes and so forth on that
move. Crew has to move train to MP 27.2 just in order to make
a Initial Terminal Air Brake Test.

At the Table Rock end there had been roughly five miles of
stored well cars, some of which had been there for well over
a year. Those are either in use or have been moved elsewhere.
For a while there were three tracks of conventional trailer
flats at Wymore but they got those out too. Pretty sure the
move was made from the Table Rock end. Trainmaster supervised
that move. Not all the crossing protection is working but
speed would be so slow that flagging crossings would not be
much of an issue.

Elevators at Franklin and Alma are still loading on the main
track when they manage to sell a train and Orleans is still
an active interchange with NKCR.

Ran at least one local earlier this year to clean out about
7 cars from Red Cloud. Happened to be working McCook that
night. Went down from Hastings.

The days of the grain empties, (and sometimes loads), from
Superior going up to Hastings are over, at least for now.
With this Spring and Summer's rainfall there is flood damage
in a number of places between Endicott and Red Cloud. Still
can get to Superior from the AT&SF side but nowhere else.
Since the only active customer is at Endicott they have
arranged for trackage rights on the UP from Hastings as
necessary. Don't even need a Track Warrant at Endicott
because they set up "Restricted Limits" from MP 114.5 to
MP 117.0.
