Doug
I think you're right about Giles...When I was there last September the
vegetation was still on in full and that's not a good thing when you're
looking for abandoned ROW.
I wasn't sure whether or not there was a wye at Giles...I hadn't thought that
there was, but it would make sense that there would be....
I know just where you are referring to just east of I 35 and i found some ROW
signs, but I couldn't get oriented as to what this I was looking at, which I
thought was the extreme east end of the "dirty side" of the Chariton Branch
just before it tied into the "straight side", this is Giles, but I could
have been misled and distracted by spousal comments ie "now where are you
going???now come you're on this road????....don't you know that we have to be
in Mt. Ayr by 2:00pm etc etc...maybe some of you guys know the drill. I'll
maybe get back there this winter and get a better look.
As to Donnelly, you're probably right about that too. If you're interested
in the wreck site I was interested in seeing you can find the full details in
the ICC investigation reports for 1933....I just looked at it again
yesterday....I know that I was close and could, at one point see a switch
stand and siding, but I couldn't get into the place I wanted to go and
spousal pressure was nearly at the "blow off point".
Someone commented re Sedan...that too is a place we had some conversations
about several months ago...I've made a couple of half hearted efforts to get
there, but from what others have said it's nearly impossible to identify...I
have from Robert Brown a little brochure and some notes for some Iowa
Railfans who had made the attempt some years ago and were equally
unsuccessful...If anyone is interested in f;urther details, post it here and
I'll come back with what I have from Robert B. re Sedan.
Pete
