CB&Q SSS chair car 4521 arrived at Huntsville Alabama last Sunday Dec, 8.
The car arrived from Loveland, Colorado and are waiting at Huntsville to be
shipped the final 5 miles to the North Alabama Railroad Museum at Chase. At
that time the Norfolk Southern will cut their Memphis to Chattanooga
mainline, slide over their track and connect it up to the museum trackage.
The North Alabama Railroad Museum (NARM) is totally land locked with no
permenent connection with any railroad. NARM operates 5 miles of railroad
that the museum owns. The 4521 travelled with 3 Union Pacific passenger
cars. Those cars accompanying the 4521 were UP 353 ( the country's oldest
operable diner), UP 1678 ( the only remaining horse transport car), UP
6-6-4 sleeper AMERICAN RAPIDS. The 4521 was stripped of its original
reclining seats when it became a B&B sleeper in 1971. The 4521 will be
restored to its 1956 appearance . The 452! 1 will also be bumped up a class
and will recieve reclining footrest seats which the museum has on hand.
Plans at this point have the 4521 being repainted silver and shadow lines
applied. This car will be restored as rapidly as possible to handle the
overflow crowds that are now turned away because of completely filled
reservation only trains that the museum runs. Trains are operated over the
Museum's Mercury and Chase Railroad , a former L&N branch line every other
