Absolutely great story! How many times in my own childhood do I 
remember train trips where "the going" was far more exciting and 
important than the destination (much to the chagrin of my mother much 
of the time).
In this all, however, I have great sympathy for what the poor 
conductor must have been undergoing. Unattended asthmatic attacks can 
be about as frightening as one can imagine.
