While I was "working" at the Eola rdhse as a machinist helper/hostler in
pre-merger days I would clean the cabs of engines and retain the train
orders. I have many setting meets on the West CHicago branch stating extra
xxx meet extra yyy at C.A.& E siding,Insulite,Batavia or Weston. After I
started in train service these meets were set via radio between the 2 crews.
Generally the crew headed for West CHicago would call and inquire as to the
location of the returning train and then take siding for them. The change
saved time and was allowed due to changing the status of the branch to a yard
spur.
