Anyone have source of a BR herald suitable for use on door of an N scale
truck cab being detailed for Q MoW use? Have slides of the protos & would
guessestimate they were no more than 12" x 10" & perhaps smaller. Thanks,
Gerald Edgar
Re: Ballast - In the late 70's or very early 80's C&NW provided BN some of
their famous 'pink ladies' ballast from the Rock Springs, WI quarry as in
turn C&NW was getting BN ballast from Sheridan I believe for use in Wyoming
area. The idea was both RR's saved lengthy MoW ballast ship- ments. (kind
of like balancing loco mileage at the time). Thus some ex-Q track got VERY
unorthodox ballast! Ultimately C&NW bought a score or more of ex-Q 'war
emergency' steel/wood ballast hoppers (ex- beet sugar service) and used them
for a few months on 4R projects out of the Kansas City area. Still carried
CB&Q rptg marks but only lasted a few months as were in very poor shape from
lack of maintenance.
Thanks, Gerald Edgar
