FYI. New Offering.
The 3rd Rail division of Sunset Models (www.3rdrail.com) has recently
offered a Burlington Route O-5 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive in
both 2-rail O-scale and 3-rail O-gauge for MSRP = $1100. Check out
the "Spring 2002 Brochure" on their web site. To my knowledge, this
is the only CB&Q 4-8-4 ever offered in 3-rail. I understand that the
production numbers will be low.
These models feature a) brass construction, b) detailed cab &
backhead, c) Pittman flywheel motor, d) Puff 'N' Chuff Synch w/
Smoke, e) Marker/classification lights, f) sprung drivers, and g)
Lionel TMCC RailSound w/Coil Coupler on 3-rail versions. Anticipated
delivery late 2002. I understand that the minimum track radii are
56" for 2-rail and 72" for 3-rail.
They are not sure of the road number yet. Due to its famed excursion
service, #5632 would probably be popular. Also, since the #5614(St
Joe, MO), #5629 (Golden, CO), #5631 (Sheridan, WY), and #5633
(Douglas, WY) are preserved, these road numbers may also have a
following. Maybe some of the other scrapped O-5's have a large
following. Let 3rd Rail know if you have a preference.
FYI only. I am not an employee, stockholder, dealor, or vendor for
3rd Rail. Just a BRHS fan (fool ?) like the rest of you BRHSlisters.
Enjoy!
