Ralph,
I have used Champ decals for most all my equipment. However, I find that
several applications are only available from Microscale. I have almost every
book on the Q and use these are references for decal placements and color. I
use Floquil paint, except Scalecoat for my Empire Builder models.
I used Scalecoat Aluminum #47 for the silver waycar, but you can also use
Floquil. For the MOW I used Floquil refer orange, with a tad of white added
(I add white to all my paints except silver) and thinned about 40%.
As for decals, use Champ HC470. Their instructions have detailed information
about painting the model and show the correct placement of decals for both
the extended vision and the NE12 Bachmann models.
The MOW version has does not use the multi colored hearld, it's a plan black
and I don't remember where I got it from, I am sure it came from a Champ
set, maybe from an early box car. Check out their catalog at your local
hobby shop.
The best reference book on way cars is "Waycars of the CB&Q" but Daniel
Holbrook & Steven Lorenz. This is currently out of print, but might be
available from you library. A reprint updated version is in the works and
should be out this summer. Another great book is "CB&Q Color Guide to
Freight and Passenger Equipment" by Mike Spoor. Has many great color photos
of waycars.
Good luck and if you have any further questions, let me know.
Regards,
Ray

Ray,
I have attempted the same idea with the Bachman waycar. However, I never
completed it. You have ideas for this car that I never thought of and I
like
them. I think I will have to find that waycar. Tell me, please, where do
you
find decals for an HO scale CB&Q waycar in the silver paint scheme? Also
what
brand/color do you use for the MOW waycar? I really like these ideas.
Thanks.
