There is an interesting article in the February issue of Railmodel
Journal on kitbashing a HO scale phase 4 SD-9 from a combination of
Proto2000 SD-9 and GP-9 Ph3 components. While the article focuses on
building a DM&IR unit, it is also appropriate for building models of
the CB&Q's last group (1959) of C&S #831-842 units. Some of the
details will be different but the concept is good. The article
suffers a little from mismatached photos and captions, but this is
easily overlooked with a nice contribution to the hobby by the author
Bob Rivard.
Ed Fulcomer's color book, Colorado & Southern, Southern Division has
a wealth of photos of this series of SD-9s to help with the project.
The Diesel Era magazine Vol 7, No 5 from Sept/Oct 1996 also gives
some valuable details about the development of the various types of
SD-9s.
For the slicers & dicers / kit bashers out there, would like to see
photos of the results of CB&Q/C&S models of these units. Maybe some
of these will show up at the BRHS meet in St Louis this year.
