Pete: I remember the hotel, but forgot the name. It was a relic (typical of
the old buildings in an old RR town). I remember the saloon across the
street from the hotel -- the "Big Onion". I remember very few names. I was
just growing up when we lived there. I had a HS teacher named Lucille
Cunningham whose father was an engineer. I understand he was killed in a
train wreck later on. Another engineer I knew was Burt McInnis. The big
name around there was John Pesek -- "Old Jawn". He had a farm southwest of
town, where he kept greyhounds. He owned "Gangster", a championship racer.
His main fame was as a wrestler. He had won the world championship. His
son, Jack, played for the Huskers and then for the Rams, later became a
professional wrestler.
We left Ravenna in '43. I visited there after that, but lost track in the
early 50s.
