Larry Doub noted:
"I would only assume the CB&Q had 50' Automobile box cars being Proto 2000
has them,"
Pretty good assumption - Life-Like has taken exceptional pains to ensure
that paint schemes and models match prototypes.
and asked:
"If they did, I would like to get a little info on how the Q used the
Automobile Box cars with end doors. Was there a special purpose for these
types of cars?"
Cars equipped with end doors were mainly used for large, bulky loads
requiring protection from the weather - automotive uses included trucks and
fire engines. Aircraft plants also used these cars to ship subassemblies as
well (Santa Fe's cars lasted a very long time to serve aviation customers in
Southern California). Additionally, the large end doors made these cars
very attractive for lumber loading.
