Rob:

"Passenger Motor Cars" were Gas/Diesel Electric passenger cars. Some
of these did end their days with no passengers in mind but were
used as light switch engines just as the 9908 was.

"Motors" were locomotives.

"Motor Cars" were 4 wheeled gasoline/belt driven contrivances
that were made by the Fairmont Co. and used to Inspect or Maintain
track and signals.

I have a booklet in my collection called "Burlington Lines Mechanical
Instructions for Enginemen". The version I have is the October 1951
revision of a January 1, 1946 book. There is a section in the book
titled "Passenger Motor Cars", which seems to use both "Passenger Motor
Car" and "Motor Car" in refering to the equipment. Perhaps another
member has an earlier version and can comment on the references.

The Corbin and Kerka Steam Locomotives book has two pages (292-293)
which contain locomotive assignments. The June 1, 1935 compilation
lists "Motor Cars", while the Feb 1, 1952 compilation lists "PMC". I
don't know if this reflects any real change, or if the Burlington used
the terms "PMC" and "Motor Car" interchangeably throughout their service
on the road.

Might one of you be able to add to this?

Best regards, Rob Adams
