A belated addition to the metallizer discussion: Another product, not marketed
to MR or aircraft people directly, is found in the hobby & craft shops such as
Hobby Lobby or Michael's. It is called "Rub 'N' Buff", and is a suspension of
fine metal particles in a wax-like carrier. It has its idiosyncrasies like
anything else (a big danger is wax buildup which can collect around detail if
it's applied too thickly), but the "learning curve" is not bad. Generally, it
will give you a "sheen" which will reflect light, but is not reflective enough
to see "mirror images". To my eye, this looks good on models around the HO size.

As for the comment about applying Testors metallizers to a base coat, Testors
specifically formulates these for application to *bare plastic* - there must be
a reason <wink>.
