The magazine you want is VINTAGE RAILS. There was an article regarding 
lumber and it tied to an article regarding the Cheyenne -Sterling branch and 
the need to haul along an SW1 to supplement the motor car to pull the 
circuitously routed lumber loads over said line

I'll get my memories of lumber storage in transit on one of these days.
