The rebuilt suburban cars were also referred to as "circus cars" due to their
many colors/variations. Yes,the older reblt coaches were routinley mixed
w/the double decks until a full compliment of control cars were available(I
have in my collection a switch list for the Aurora Yd crew in 1964 showing
how to make up the various Sat.morning trains. The descriptions are usually a
"power car,so many "flat tops" and so many double decks, and of course a
"locker car". The locker cars were assigned to crews and the trainmen could
store their gear in the "lockers" which were a compartment at the end of the
second level in a small number of double decks.I can tell you with first hand
experience that it was a high crime to put the wrong "locker car" on a
commuter train as late as 1976-77("peanuts Schoerder " used to throw an
absolute fit if his locker got put on another consist in 14th st. because he
lost his "card table". But thats another story for another day.

P.S. My Uncle Ray Lorenz "iced" these cars for many years until all were
replaced by the "reblt" double decks.
