Does anyone have information on which NYC two-tone grey sleepers may
have operated from time to time on the California Zephyr.
I saw a picture in "The Domeliners" by Patrick Dorin that shows the
California Zephyr at Bond, Colorado. Just ahead of the Vista-dome
Observation is a NYC sleeper, but not enough of the car is showing to
determine which car it is. It has "New York Central" in small
letters in the letterboard next to the end door, so it may be
lettered "Pullman" in the center of the car.
The picture is undated. One would presume that this is the New York
to Oakland 10-6 sleeper that ran on the train until 1957, but that
car was designated CZ-11 and this car is clearly designated CZ-15,
which was a Chicago to Oakland sleeper. Also, NYC's normal
contribution to the train was a leased D&RGW 10-6 sleeper, so this
may be a picture of the train after 1957, but with a NYC car
substituting for the regular car.
Any information would be appreciated.
