I thought I would finally throw my two cents in. I have also heard of the
buried work train in the fill east of Highlands, but have not seen any
documentation. But, I can tell you that a couple of friends with more time
on this earth than I, George Speir and Dave Beck, have each told me about
the peat bog fires that frequently burned in the swamp now occupied by the
Tri State Tollway, I-294 between Western Springs and Highlands.
