Intermountain has received the first shipment of their HO F-7 in the CBQ
freight scheme. The Lt. gray/off white(grayback color) looks fine, although
I'm one that does not get into discussions about proper/correct shades of
this or that color, as one day in the sun will alter any shade of UP yellow,
GN green, PRR brunswick green, PC green, etc, etc. The side stripes are
crisp and go around the corners of the rear of the A unit and all corners of
the B unit. The nose herald/wing has the thin black edge stripe with a
decal(?) for the herald. Portholes are black on the round outside edges and
even the reflective unit number that goes under the top light is included.
The side steps, fuel tank cover, trucks, and fuel/water tanks are black.
Even the sand door handles are red. Unit numbers offered are 167A, 167C,
169A, and 169C for the cab units and 167B, 168B, and 169B for the
bosters(yes-only 3 numbers). Other characteristics of the Q phI F-7 are: 36"
dynamic brake fan, horizontal grills, passenger pilot, and silver side kick
plates. It appears that the only items not included are the grabs for the
nose side and top, cab details, and builders plate. The Q only owned 10 As
and 3 Bs in this series of phase 1 F-7A/B(?). These units are offered 3
ways(like Chili 3 ways at Steak n Shake): kits, assembled shells, and
assembled powered shells. Us Q modelers are being hit pretty hard so far
this year: P2K SD-7, GP-30, Stewart VO-1000, F-3 passenger colors, and the
Intermountain F-7. Will the Walthers Budd cars be worth our wait? This is
a great time to be a Q modeler!!
