The American Royal Zephyr and Kansas City Zephyr were inaugurated on February
1st, 1953. The American Royal Zephyr replaced the American Royal.
Excursions included a special train on 1/25/53 for sellers and agents from
Kansas City on the new "short cut" to Brookfield.
Excursions and displays on 1/26/53 to Hannibal and Quincy.
A trip for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce on 1/27/53 after a public
affairs luncheon for President Harry Murhpy, was operated over the new line.
Subsequent excursions were offered to Leavenworth and St. Joseph that same
day.
January 28, 1953 exhibitions were held in Macon and Brookfield with operating
excurions out of Brookfield and Chillicothe.
January 29, 1953 a 5 1/2 hour exhibition was held at St. Joseph, followed by
3 excursions to to East Leavenworth.
And finally a 12 hour exhibition was held at Kansas City Union Station on
January 30, 1953.
Christening was held on January 31st, with 5 public excursions to East
Leavenworth, and trains entered service on February 1st, 1953. Photos show
"Silver Terrace" on excursions to Leavenworth, which supports the theory that
"Silver Terrace" was on the first eastbound "Kansas City Zephyr" to Chicago.
I hope this helps.
