GM Demonstrator Colors

Dear Allen:

Athearn had a model of these SD-45's. The blue looks like it has a metallic
tint to it. The Athearn paint color is not the same as the blue EMD uses
now. I'm not sure if EMD had a metallic tint and changed in later years or
if the Athearn paint I saw was wrong.

There was a color book coming out just on demonstrator paint schemes. You
might look for it. I don't know the publisher. It would probably have
color photos of these.

As far as Amtrak, I'm not sure when they started carrying freight but it is
common now. The units you saw are Road Railers. NS picked up on this idea
in the 80's. C&O had a smaller operation in the 60's? used in Michigan and
maybe other places too to haul mail.
