Greetings all:
re Pando, Colo., 1939-1943:
For three World War Two photos of Pando and Camp Hale (two in color) see page
43 of the Summer 1997 number of Vintage Rails. The black and white shows
outbound Air Corp soldiers waiting in front of the Pando depot apparently
with a steam-powered train approaching from the east. The color shots show
D&RGW FTs on a westbound freight passing Camp Hale and a distant image of the
valley with steam pulling an eastbound freight with Camp Hale in the
background. The photos are credited to the Denver Public Library Western
History Collection.
Vintage Rails for Sept/Oct 1999 pages 65 and 67 displays late-40s photos of
D&RGW 4-8-4s and westbound passenger trains at Royal Gorge and at Minturn.
These photos are credited to John Brigges and a collection at Miami
University of Ohio respectively.
Regards,
Bill Diven
