I have read with growing interest the articles in Railway Age,Progressive
Railroads and Trains about the movement to scheduled work for crews in pool
service. Sounds really civilized if they can make it work. I haven't pulled
the time books out but my guess is the longest stretch I went w/o a day off
was 72-75 days. I do know that the last full year I worked in train service I
had 310 starts or about 55 days off including vacation.Karl,Bob,Gary and
others surely somebody has a longer string then mine. I remember Dallas
Felker used to go 6 months or more w/o a day off and then ask for xmas and
the crew caller would say"no men available"! Leo
