I weighed cars all through the 70's and weighing 1/2 the car @ a time was standard practice and had been for decades. Generally you couldn't fit the entire car on the scale live rails.Until the newer weight in motion scales came into use this was the way it was done.Also many scales couldn't handle the full weight of the car.Remember these scales were put in place when average tonnage per car was often under 40.
