Anybody ever spend a part of a day weighing cars? Talk about tedious: line up
the weighers, then go to the scale trk, line the rails for the scale, set one
truck on the scale making sure the other end is not on the scale rails, if so
uncouple, weigh that half the car, imprint the info on the scale ticket, then
shove the car so the other end is on the scale, again make sure only those
wheels and nothing else is on the scale, weigh that end, imprint and total on
the scale ticket. Shove that car past the scale and spot one end of next car
on the live rails. Repeat process until all the weighers are recorded. Take
scale tickets to yard office. Switch out any overweights, and then the balance
to their assigned classification tracks. Another almost lost art as hardly
anything is weighed anymore. Its shippers weights and then compared to UMLER
data and if tare wt and shippers weights exceed max weight on rail its to the
hold trk.until the discrepancy is resolved. Leo
