To Bob, Russ and Ed, thanks for the information about the Mars lights.
Bob, the first time I ran the S4 at a friend's house my heart was in my
throat. I am not use to playing with little toys with 4 digit price tags!
Let us hope it never takes the fast ride to the ground floor.
John.

On diesels, the red Mars light was activated automatically by an emergency
(not penalty) application of the train brakes provided the "signal light"
circuit breaker was closed. It was wired through the "pneumatic control"
switch. Obviously, the red Mars light on steam power was activated
manually.
Modeling-wise, I can't picture a need to "light" the red Mars light, other
than when the locomotive would derail and hit the floor; should be battery
operated then.

Attn KLR: Did anyone correctly identify the picture you posted to the files
back in April of 5631 on west end of the Savanna RH lead 10/6/57 with engr.
Willard "Sport" Becker and fireman "Honest" John Schmid? Got me baffled,
too.
