Michael:
At one time there was a fair sized yard in Randolph. This was where the
MN&S and the CGW and the C&NW all interchanged. Why? In the days of
diversion lumber this was one of the favored routes that the lumber
brokers used. The idea was to make the cars move as slowly as possible
while they were trying to sell the contents.
This was the last spot that C&NW used it's CGW painted RS2's. Should
have shots of both of them there if you are interested.
Here is the part of BNSF's database that shows those marks:
Carr Carr
Abbr Numb Carrier Name
---- ---- -----------------------------------
PPCX XXX PRIVATELY OWNED PASSENGER CARS & LO
PPGX XXX PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO
PPLX XXX PENNSYLVANIA POWER & LIGHT CO
PPRO XXX PIONEER PROJECTS INC.
PPSX XXX PIONEER PIPE & SUPPLY CO INC
PPU 645 PEORIA & PEKIN UNION RY CO.
PQX XXX PQ CORPORATION
PRBV XXX PRICE BROS TRANS SVCS
PRCN XXX PRINTCO ENTERPRISES
PRCO XXX PRICE COSTCO INC
PRCX XXX PRAIRE COAL LIMITED
PRDX XXX PACIFIC RAIL DISMANTLING SERVICES,

"PPCX" is obviously a generic initial for anything "Private".
Lot of help there, aint it?
Best I can do,
Russ
