The CB&Q's wrecker boom cars varied greatly in size, shape and type, looking at
the ones shown in Bulletin #18. I based mine on #207669 and #208260 in
particular, choosing a double-ended gondola style. The basis was a Lima 50 foot
ribbed gondola bought at a swap meet for very little. Panels were cut out
between pairs of ribs, with styrene cemented horizontally between the ribs as
steps, and flat wire to form the bottom rung. Tool cupboards were built at each
end from styrene and underbody parts from the scrap box, and the boom rests
were made of angle and chanel styrene. Wire was added on each side of the steps
as handrails, plus grab irons, etc.
The wrecker was an Athern model altered to match the 250 ton Bucyrus-Erie ones.
Hope that helps.
Rupert
