Richard,

In the Members Only section of the website is Zephyr 47 (my favorite issue.)  If you go to pages 8 and 9 they have the Standard color Schedule for Painting Structures.  Under the Water Tanks, The Wood Tub, Wood or Steel Substructure lists Structural Red Mineral.  The paint chip is titled Indian Red/Structural Red Mineral for the same color.  The drawing is dated 1930, but I'm pretty sure the colors didn't change on anything until the late 50's new look colors.

I am building a 50K gallon wooden water tank and I'm wondering how they were painted in the mid-1950s. Were the tanks themselves painted in standard Q colors? Were the wooden support legs painted? And the frost box?
