Pete was not only a contributor to the BRHS publications and meetings, but he also became a good friend. When he would travel to Georgia to visit his son and his family, he would make it a point to call me and we would grab breakfast or lunch together. Pete was truly a good Christian man, and I will miss our meetings.

I had the opportunity to talk with Pete at several BRHS meets. He was wealth of information and very entertaining.

I was just thinking about him during the last Marion meet and how he was doing.

The Lincoln club sold a CD of movies taken by Pete, family and friends during the last days of the Rock Port, Langdon and Northern. It also included movies of CB&Q trains in the 1940s in northwestern Missouri.

I do not know if that is still available or not. Perhaps Don would know.

With great sadness I report the passing of J. Pete Hedgpeth, Lincoln resident and longtime member of the Lincoln Railfans Club. Pete peacefully succumbed to complications from a recent fall in Lincoln, late Sunday evening, November 30, 2025.

Pete grew up in Rock Port, Missouri, where his family was heavily involved in the management of the Rock Port, Langdon and Northern Railway, a 5.6 mile independent short line built to connect Rock Port to the Burlington at Langdon. Although the RPL&N ceased operations when he was 9, he played a role in the railroad’s operation. He also observed CB&Q main line operations at Langdon, and as a teenager, participated in several rail travel adventures with his contemporaries.
