Rich and Bob,

Refresh my memory, did we ever resolve which eastbound passenger train handled the
Kable printed material direct from Oregon until it was taken off ? That’s when the Oregon Turn wayfreight was put on and a number of “jeeps” were outfitted for freight service. Vaguely I’m starting to remember Bill Schultz may have answered this some time back.

Also an interesting sidebar to this service. The Kable material cars went on the back of one of the two night Dinkies that departed Aurora around 5 or 7 ish. These also handled the modified baggage/wheel car returning turned wheel sets from the Aurora shops. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of one these consists.

Bob.

The Q used some wooden baggage cars in the 1450 series in captive service between Chicago and Mt Morris.  I have an F.R. Ritzman photo from Lake States of 1459 stenciled "FOR SERVICE ONLY BETWEEN CHICAGO AND MT MORRIS."  This is the same photo used by Jim Singer in Zephyr #47 in his Oregon and its Link to Mt. Morris sidebar.  My understanding is that these cars were used for LCL printed material from Kable that needed to go to CUS for shipping.  It would leave on the Oregon Turn to Aurora and presumably sent to Chicago on the back of a commuter train.  After unloading, the car would be sent to the 14th Street yard and returned to the Oregon yard on Daily Passenger Train #45.  The car would be moved from Oregon yard to Mt Morris on Daily Wayfreight Train #45, and, when loaded, returned on Daily Wayfreight Train #46 for placement on the Oregon Turn.  There would need to be several cars in this service.

I am modeling this service on my 1950 layout.  As Leo noted, there were also many "Jeeps" - the converted troop kitchens - in service for Kable. but these were mostly (I believe) sealed cars.  I'm looking forward to the "Jeep" Bulletin.

With multiple customers' completed work in the car, there would need to be some sort of documentation for Kable.  I'm not sure if this would result in a waybill.

I cannot find the photo of the old wood baggage cars with fishbelly frames that were stencilled return to Mount Morris, or something like that. I'm sure Rich Gortowski has the same photo or one like it so hopefully he will weigh in. At any rate, you answered my question about waybills. Thanks, Leo.
