Thanks for the history and correction. I looked up the coal sheds in towns along the Burlington-Washington Sub-Division, and found 8x12 sheds in Roscoe and Mt. Union and a 9x12 shed in Washington. No sheds were listed for the other towns
on the branch line in Dave Lotz’s article in BB#30, but that may not mean they didn’t exist. The Washington shed appears in several photos, and it had a peaked roof. I would think a 8x16 shed would have an access door. The Washington photos don’t show all
four sides of the shed, so modeling is speculative. We need more information to model these sheds.
One other question, is a coal house the same thing as a coal shed? Could a coal house be for coaling tenders, while a coal shed was for storing coal for depot stoves? Roscoe has a 8x12 coal house under Depot Facilities and a 9x20 coal house
under a heading of Water Station. Yarmouth has a 7x11 coal house under Depot Facilities. Winfield had a 16x61 ft. coal bin, which was clearly for tenders, since it is listed under Fuel Station. Since there is no coal house under Depot Facilities in Winfield,
Wyman, or Crawfordsville, were the depots, heated with fuel oil stoves?
From this information, the only coaling stations for tenders were in Roscoe and Winfield. Washington had a large coal bin of the commercial coal storage type, but I don’t know that it was used for tenders since it’s not listed under railroad
structures in Washington.
Another observation is that Q coal houses (sheds) weren’t entirely standardized, as I’ve just documented three different sizes on the branch line (7x11, 8x12, and 9x12). Could your 8x16 be for tenders like the 9x20 in Winfield? 8x16 is
pretty large of depot coal storage.

These drawings are from some guestimates I made based on pictures in Millington and other pictures of Q coal sheds. The size was counted from batten strips and all doors other than pictures are best guesses. The drawing Charlie made was based on my input
and used for a make and take at a Q meet. Now that the BRHS archives has published valuation section 8, I now know Millington had: "coal house, 8' x 16' "
If the BRHS archives now has drawings of sheds like these, it would be helpful to all of us to "get it right" just like with the outhouses.
