Thanks for that. The “Central” reference would be to the Iowa Central, or should that be the Central Iowa?

Rupert:  As information, Maxon is first used as a station name in the Iowa Division employee timetable of October 5, 1884.  Prior to that ETT it was referred to as 'Central Crossing'.

Ken

Maxon first appears in the Official Guide in 1885, at which time Maxon was only Assistant Superintendent, which seems a bit lowly to have a town named after yourself. Usually a town was named for a director. It may be that he had a special connection to the area or that his father (with a first name of Edward or similar) worked for the company and it was named after him.

J B Maxon was Assistant Superintendent in 1886 and Superintendent, Middle Division, Iowa & Missouri Lines, based in Ottumwa in 1888, but he had left the company by 1890. According to trainorders.com, the town was named for “Ed Maxon, who was the CB&Q's East Iowa Supt in the late 1880's.”
I haven’t found a date yet of when Maxon was established to tie it in to Maxon’s seniority. I’ll dig further and try to join the dots.

Towns named after CB&Q officials forms part of a Burlington Bulletin article I have recently sent to Dave Lotz.

Does Maxon have anything to do with the name on the junction with the Iowa Central on the east side of Albia?
