Thread-topic: [CBQ] Colors for Painting CB&Q Station

Unless you want to do a custom mix to match paint chips, I agree with Dave. Maroon Tuscan Oxide Red looks purple in the bottle, but dries to a very close approximation of CB&Q Indian Red. I used it with Euro Dark Green on a scratchbuilt depot I displayed at a model contest, and received a comment that it was the closest depot paint scheme to CB&Q practice he had seen. If you want to fade and oxidize for a weathered appearance, you’re better off to mix your own colors. The red fades toward oxide red and the green oxidizes toward dark olive, almost black. I collected original paint chips from three CB&Q depots not to be named, all of about the same paint age, on different trips over three years, and I was amazed at how close the aged and weathered paint colors were.

Use an airbrush, as ModelFlex doesn’t brush well, at least for me.

I have used the ModelFlex paints with good results.

Dale,

I recommend ModelFlex 16-15 Maroon Tuscan Oxide Red and ModelFlex 16-100 European Dark Green, both of which I have for sale at Q Connection.

Subject: [CBQ] Colors for Painting CB&Q Station

Getting ready to paint a small wood frame CB&Q passenger/freight station.  The historical society data sheet ( Zephyr issue 2-03 No 47) indicates that the body should be painted "Indian Red Structural Red Mineral" and the trim should be "Bronze Green" and the shingle roof "slate green".  Are their any recommendations of currently available model paints that would be a close match to these colors?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Dale DeWitt
