Thread-topic: [CBQ] Observation Cars Purchased from SP&S

Richard

According to Bill Glick’s “Passenger Car Roster” -

SP&S 570 became CB&Q 220 “Mississippi” in June 1934, renumbered to 340 in 11-19346 and rebuilt as a buffet-parlor-observation. Again rebuilt as chair car 4811, in Feb. 1946. restored to original class and number and in June 1953 it was rebuilt as office car “Round Up”

SP&S 571 became 221 “River view” in June 1934, rebuilt to chair car 14810 in May 1943. In Feb. 1946 it was restored to its original class and number, and it became 250051 at Lincoln May 1967.

There are photos of both cars in Burlington Bulletin 42 – the Exposition Flyer issue.

Subject: [CBQ] Observation Cars Purchased from SP&S

All,

I'm trying to find information on two observation cars purchased from the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway. These were steel heavyweight cars and were SP&S 570 and 571 and were built by Barney & Smith in 1915. I'm looking for info on what these cars became on the CB&Q and their dispositions. If someone could provide the AFE numbers for the purchase and for any changes that would also be helpful.

Thanks,

Richard Wilkens
