The B&MR/ CB&Q acquired the Black Hills and Fort Pierre and the Deadwood Central railroads. Both were 3’ gauge RR in the Black Hills. The BH&FtP was originally started by the Homestake mine to bring in lumber. The roads were merged into the Q and fially abandoned in 1930. Engine 537 was leased to  the C&S but the only other connection to the C&S was the Q bought. a few cars to run in the Black Hills.

Hi All,

Just read that the Q may have owned and operated a narrow gauge operation in the Dakotas.  Can anyone share some info on it if it existed?  Name?  Time period?  Was it in anyway related to the C&S narrow gauge operations in Colorado?

Thanks,

Bill Canelos
